A fun approach to design
Karen and Tine formed Claydies shortly after graduating from Danish Design School in 2000. As their name suggests, the pair take a fun and unconventional approach to design.
“It is a ping pong process, in which we are always hunting good ideas,” they state on their website. “Sometimes we wear our bowls on a catwalk. Sometimes we are inspired by horrors and murder our pots. And sometimes we set up dogma-rules and work blindfolded. We strive always to renew ourselves and make ceramic design that matters. That is to have fun and give fun...”.
But while the designers like to inject some humour into their projects, they certainly know how to create seriously good designs. This covetable vase was awarded Best of the Year Award Merit Winner 2008, Form 2008.
The Grass Vase
Each vase is handmade from clay, with its own unique character. Elegant but quirky, the vase is designed “for ordinary flowers of the type we often overlook in our daily lives.”
Available in small, medium or large sizes, choose one to suit your space or group all three together to make a statement piece. A white backdrop will give your vase the focus it deserves, while pink, purple or deep blue blooms will complement the muted green tones of the ‘grass’.
Opt for cornflowers, irises (a mix of purple and white varieties for a pretty contrast), tulips, ranunculas or even thistles (as seen above) for a natural meadow feel.
