Photographer Hilary Upton speaks about her love for peonies

The New Zealand photographer Hilary Upton creates the most beautiful photos in vintage style, which have a nostalgic feel to them. Peonies are one of the most popular flowers to photograph. Funnyhowflowersdothat asked Hilary about her work and her love of the peony.

Photographing from London to New Zealand

‘I have a Fine Arts Degree where I majored in photography. This was a 4 year degree, taking photographs with art in mind. I took a break after finishing but my passion was re-ignited while living and working in London. I began to create a portfolio of work consisting of mainly still life work, particularly flowers, and NZ landscapes when I was lucky enough to return home on visits. I moved back to New Zealand in 2008 and continued to photograph seascapes as well as extend my portfolio of floral and vintage Stills. My work is now sold here and all over the world.’

Favourite flower, the peony

‘Flowers are a big inspiration for my work, along with vintage toys - old cameras, animals, kitchenware etc and of course landscapes. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. My fascination began with them while in London and I created my first set of three Peony pictures which have become one of my most popular works. Photographs such as Peony Pink can now be found as cushion covers, iPhone cases, canvas and more.’
