DIY 1: Candlesticks with baubles and flowers

Candlesticks aren't just for candles. Get creative and use them as displays for baubles and flowers for an original take on table decorations.

You will need:

  • Different flowers and sprigs of greenery. Preferably, choose classic Christmas flowers such as the ones in this bouquet. Thin-stemmed, light flowers are the best pick here.
  • Pruning shears
  • Candlesticks / candle holders / candle sticks
  • Small Christmas baubles

How to make DIY candlesticks with baubles and flowers

  1. Collect the candlesticks and baubles you want to use and see which combinations match the best.
  2. Visit your local florist and collect some flowers and sprigs of greenery.
  3. Twist or pull the top (the part where the hook goes through) off the baubles, leaving a hole at the top of the bauble.
  4. Fill the baubles with water (these will serve as vases) and place them on the candlesticks.
  5. Cut the flowers diagonally to the desired length and fill the baubles with flowers.
  6. Place the finished candlesticks  on your Christmas table and enjoy your homemade decorations!

Tip: If you want to reuse these decorations, or are concerned that they may fall over, we recommend gluing the baubles to the candlesticks.

DIY 2: a perfectly sized Christmas bouquet

Having a giant Christmas bouquet on your table might feel festive, but it definitely doesn't make having conversations with your guests easier. Why not go for a smaller but still perfectly sized bouquet instead? This arrangement uses a flower pin or frog (also known as a kenzan) as an assist in creating flowers that aren't too big and aren't too small. Sometimes used instead of floral foam, we also used it in this bouquet of gerberas

You will need:

  • Your favourite Christmas flowers (take inspiration from this bouquet if you're stuck)
  • Flower pin/frog/kenzan
  • Pruning shears
  • Shallow/small vases or glasses

How to make a Christmas flower arrangement in a double vase with candles

  1. Visit your local florist and choose the flowers that speak to you.
  2. Attach the adhesive eraser to the bottom of the smaller vase.
  3. Stick the smaller vase inside the larger one.
  4. Cut the flowers to the desired length. Tip: don't cut them too short, as you want to make sure the stems stay at the bottom of the vase and that the flowers stick out above the water.
  5. Place the flowers piece by piece into the large vase (i.e. between the vases), so that the stems are in the water and the flowers don't get wet.
  6. Place the candle in the smallest vase.
  7. Put the vase on the Christmas table and light the candle.
