Crown them with flowers
If you want to reach peak cuteness with your birth announcement photo, crown your little angel with a halo of real fresh flowers (no filter required!). Flower crowns are super-easy to make and look beautiful for indoor shots against a plain white backdrop. Or, for spring or summer babies, why not head out into the garden and do the shoot in front of your flowerbeds? Use this DIY flower crown tutorial as a starting point and scale it down accordingly.
Spell it out
Spell out your baby’s name or initials and the date and time of their birth in flowers, take a snap then mail it out as a postcard or email it as a j-peg. You can do this by simply arranging flowers into the letters and numbers on a large white cotton sheet or piece of paper, as pictured here. Or, if you have the patience or creative skills (or perhaps just a handy and willing grandma!) make your own letter and number arrangements. It’s not as tricky as it sounds, with the help of this DIY flower letter project.
Keep it seasonal
The flowers you choose could simply be your favourites – but try to keep them seasonal and locally sourced, where possible. British in-season flowers won’t have had to travel as far to reach your local florist, which means they’ll be fresher, healthier and less likely to wilt while you’re snapping away.
Make it meaningful
If you want to opt for something more meaningful, why not incorporate your baby’s birth flower into your arrangement? In case you’re not sure, here’s a lowdown of the birth flowers by month: January: carnation; February: iris or violet; March: daffodil; April: sweet pea or daisy; May: lily; June: rose; July: delphinium; August: gladiolus; September: aster; October: marigold; November: chrysanthemum; December: narcissus.
And, of course, if your baby has a floral name, such as Daisy, Poppy or Iris, you could also incorporate these into your display.
Bridal bouquet blooms
Another cute touch is to use the same selection of flowers that you used for your wedding. No longer simply your wedding flowers, they will become your family flowers. And you never know, when your baby grows up she might even use them one day for her own special occasions.
