Bouquets for health workers
We often send bunches of flowers to friends as a way of saying 'thank you'. Now, national retailers are getting in on the action and showing their appreciation to frontline health workers. Online flower supplier Bloom and Wild is offering a huge reduction on bouquets for NHS workers, and several supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco and Marks & Spencer have been gifting bouquets to NHS workers who come to shop in the store, bringing tears of gratitude to their eyes.
Flower installations to celebrate the NHS
Event florists Early Hours Ltd worked hard in isolation to create a message of love and support for our National Health Service. They created an installation of roses, narcissi and other brightly colourful flowers that spells out "I <3 NHS", visible outside Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals in Central London. Each team member made up a letter at home, and then brought it to the location where it was positioned on a bespoke frame. For Early Hours, the installation is "[a] small token of our appreciation for all the selfless kindness shown by the staff and volunteers working so hard to protect us all".
Flower and foodsellers team up
For those of us who are self-isolating and can't get to the shops, independent online flower retailer Floom has capitalised on its pre-existing delivery network to launch Floom Market, which sends grocery boxes and hampers via contact-free delivery, alongside its beautiful bouquets. You can also order a treat box of fudge, biscuits and coffee — a perfect accompaniments to a video catch-up with friends, with your bouquet artfully placed in the background, of course.
Flowers4Oxygen
Over in the Netherlands, the plants and flowers sector has launched the campaign #Flowers4Oxygen, whose goal is to spread positivity through flowers and plants. To join in with the movement and sprinkle your own dash of mood-boosting postive energy on friends' timelines, simply post a photo of flowers in bloom on Instagram and add #flowers4oxgyen to the caption.
Are there any flower initiatives happening in your local area, or have you heard of a campaign that should be on our list? Get in touch with us at editorial@funnyhowflowersdothat and we'll add it to the mix.
