Work with your space
Now for the tricky part: the practicalities of hanging your display. Working with any natural features in the space will make life easier for you – and help integrate the display with the style of the room. Whether it’s the metal framework of a marquee or the wooden support beams of a barn or tipi, look for structures you can weave with foliage, branches and blooms. Some rooms may even have a hanging structure of existing chandelier you can work with.
Be creative
If there are no structures in place to assist you, don’t fret – a little imagination will go a long way. Think laterally. Having checked the ceiling is strong enough to take the weight (you don’t want to knock your guests out halfway through the speeches!), you can always attach your designed structure. A wooden circular or rectangular frame can be suspended then adorned with flowers to create a beautiful floral chandelier. Alternatively, you can have small glass bottles or mason jars suspended from it too. These are perfect for a vintage-chic vibe, and filled with a little water, will help to keep your flowers fresh and hydrated.
Choose the right blooms
Whether you’re choosing flowers based on your colour scheme – or you simply want to spend your special day surrounded by your favourite blooms, it’s worth bearing in mind how your flowers will work within your hanging structure. Your wedding florist will have lots of experience in this department and would be able to offer expert advice on this, as well as availability for the best blooms in season.
If you’re going for a huge statement piece to hang above a banquet table, opt for bold and voluminous blooms, such as peonies (the epitome of romance) or hydrangea (vintage-cool). For a more delicate display, such as one that incorporates small jars, smaller flowers, such as ranunculus or anemones will look super-pretty.
